ALDR was born out of the shared experiences of a group of early- and mid-career professional linguists who felt an increasing need for connections with potential community research partners, an organizational affiliation to apply for research funding, an ethical and administrative infrastructure (outside of academic institutions) that would support independent and collaborative work, and the camaraderie of working with like-minded colleagues.
Our mission statement
ALDR is an organization of professional linguists working in and around the Pacific Northwest of North America. Our purposes are:
- to serve communities by connecting them to linguistic services;
- to help communities apply for and manage research funding;
- to uphold ethical standards and protocols amongst our members; and
- to support our members’ professional development.
